Lastly, Egurtek 2022 recognised the best professionals in the sector by giving seven awards and two runner-up awards to the best projects selected from nearly 100 entries.
The Egurtek 2022 Construction Award went to the Viviendas Sociales project (Cornellà de Llobregat, Barcelona), by Marta Peris and José Manuel Toral. The jury considered the exceptional coherence in the use of wood in different situations within the project, from the configuration of the structure to its presence in different elements, all with extreme rigour and attention to the architectural composition. In addition, in the same category, a runner-up prize has been awarded to Casal Porta Trinitat (Barcelona), by Manuel Sanchez-Villanueva and Carol Beuter, also winners of the Madera Local-Basque Quality prize. In this proposal, the jury has highlighted the interesting use of wood in an introverted suburban project offering excellent solutions with regard to the construction details, as well as the benefits of a notable top-quality thermal independence, channelled through the courtyards.
In the Interior Design category, the prize went to Casa Pris (Vigo, Pontevedra), by Óscar Andrés and Iván Andrés. According to the jury, this is an excellent refurbishment/repair exercise that, after an exhaustive analysis, has conserved elements that were in good condition, contrasting these with new elements while maintaining an equilibrium. In addition, the maintenance of the staircase and its coexistence with new solutions, and the encounter with the different floors are of notable complexity and reflect a profound knowledge of the craft and the use of details typical of the traditional architecture of Galicia. As in the previous awards, in this category a runner-up prize was awarded to Standing Box Laying Box (Pamplona, Navarre), by the authors Ignacio Olite and Koldo Fernández. A project that incorporates recently completed actions, which are included in the renovation, and which is committed to sustainability based on certain solutions. This work presents an elegance in the formal solution with very simple and minimalist language.
The Product Design Award went to the Mesa Laga by Silvia Ceñal. The jury highlighted the elegant design of extraordinary quality and the careful attention to detail in this table as a piece of furniture of objective utility. The result is intended to be attractive for retail sale for interior decoration.
Finally, in the Publication category, two winners were named ex-aequo: Tectónica.Archi, presented by the architect José María Marzo. A recognition of the didactic and informative work of this publication and a very positive assessment of the attention paid to the most contemporary problems related to the use of wood. And to Aitim Magazine, presented by the architect José Enrique Peraza. An award which recognises this journal for its many years of providing information, teaching about and promoting the use of wood, guiding several generations of architects, builders and interior designers.
The Special Local Wood-Basque Quality Award went to Casal Porta Trinitat (Barcelona), by Manuel Sanchez-Villanueva and Carol Beuter. The jury highlighted the excellent work and uniqueness of this project.
The Bois/Egurra/Madera (BEM) Special Award went to the work Last Chance For A Slow Dance (Larrabetzu, Bizkaia), by Beñat Saratxaga and Gentzane Goikuria. This award recognises outstanding work promoted by the public administration in the New Aquitaine, Basque Country and Navarre Euroregion.
The jury of the Egurtek 2022 Awards is led by Francisco Javier Chocarro, dean and president of the Official Basque-Navarre Association of Architects; and formed by the members José Antonio Barea (Public University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU), Javier Cenicacelaya (Infoedita), Oskar Azkarate (Baskegur), Gonzalo Alonso (Abalo Alonso Arquitectos), Andoni Díaz (Association of Designers and Decorators of Bizkaia) and Juan Sádaba (EIDE, Basque Design Association).
Since its creation in 2012, the Wooden Architecture Awards receive around a hundred high quality projects every year and have become one of the most prestigious awards in the sector. Egurtek will host the award ceremony of its VI Awards and the panels of the participating candidates are exhibited next to the commercial area of the event.
