• The companies participating in the Expo Zone, from Germany, Australia, Belgium, USA, France, Italy and Spain, are mainly involved in bioconstruction, structures, materials and wood treatments
  • The International Forum of Architecture and Construction in Wood, which will take place on 16 and 17 October at Bilbao Exhibition Centre, will feature a series of Technical Seminars and a first-class Conference

The 10th edition of Egurtek, the Forum of Architecture and Construction in Wood, which promotes this essential resource for sustainable building, will come to Bilbao Exhibition Centre in October with interesting proposals, also in the Expo Zone. Innovation Workshops will be held here, where exhibitors will present the latest products and services in the sector.

One of the main new features of this edition will be live demonstrations in this space, which will allow the public to observe first-hand the most advanced solutions and techniques in wood construction and design.

The international nature of the wood sector event means that there is also a major foreign presence. The event will be attended by around fifty exhibitors from Spain, Germany, Australia, Belgium, the USA, France and Italy. The participating companies, which will showcase innovative products and solutions, work in the fields of sustainable construction-bioconstruction, wood structures, materials and elements for wood construction and wood treatments.

The aim of the Expo Zone is to show professionals the latest trends in construction in wood. To this end, a comprehensive overview of products and services related to aspects such as, for example, wood treatments, structural software or material imports, among others, will be offered. The event will also include a networking area, where professionals from the sector will be able to exchange ideas and establish collaborations.

Technical Workshops and a first-class Conference

The Egurtek programme will be rounded off by technical workshops, which will be organised together with the Basque Wood Association, Baskegur, and by an international conference that will feature top-level professionals, such as the Pritzker 2023 prize-winner, David Chipperfield.

The four technical workshops on innovation in wood will focus on specific topics related to architecture and construction using this material, such as the circular forest bioeconomy, digitalisation and new technologies, design and interior design, as well as acoustics and fire. The sessions will include talks from experts, presentation of reports and a debate at the end of each.

For its part, the conference will feature a panel of prestigious national and international figures specialising in architecture and construction in wood. The renowned British architect and urban planner Sir David Chipperfield (David Chipperfield Architects), the winner of the Pritzker Prize 2023, will be among the main attractions. He will be joined by speakers from Germany, Austria, France, Finland and the UK, who will set out their views on the potential wood construction and share their latest projects: Andreas Etzelstorfer (Backraum Architektur), Liza Heilmeyer (Birk Heilmeyer und Frenzel Studio), Mikko Liski (AFKS Architects) and Philippe Madec (Atelier Philippe Madec).

Closer to home, Beñat Saratxaga (Behark Arkitektura, Bilbao), Carol Beuter (Estudio HAZ Arquitectura, Barcelona), Maialen Sagarna (OS3 Arquitectura, Usurbil) and José Toral (Peris+Toral Arquitectes, Barcelona) will highlight the use of this material in designing quality, innovative and environmentally friendly works.

This forum is organised by Bilbao Exhibition Centre and is sponsored by the Basque Government’s Department of food, rural development, agriculture and fisheries, in collaboration with Baskegur-Basque Wood Association, the Basque-Navarre Official College of Architects, and the Bilbao School of Engineering (UPV/EHU).
