Bioeconomy will be the main focus in the technical sessions of Egurtek – 14 to 15 October in Bilbao Exhibition Centre

Papers will focus on new projects and challenges of their implementation
in the forest sector and in sustainable construction

 Egurtek,  International Forum on Architecture and Construction in Wood, will offer a program of high-level Technical Sessions that will have the participation of prestigious experts on October 14 and 15. The main topic of the conferences will be bioeconomy applied to both the forestry sector and sustainable construction with wood as distinctive element; a field in which  science, research and innovation are essential elements to optimize the efficiency of resources.

The Egurtek Technical Sessions, organized by the Basque Wood Association-Baskegur, will be divided every day in two sessions, morning and afternoon. A total of four papers will be held, that will start with a brief presentation by the guest expert and will conclude with a round table and an open debate.

In this regard, the Technical Sessions will begin with a presentation on Strategy for Circular Forest Bioeconomy in the Basque Country, where an ad hoc report will be presented and participants will discuss the creation of a network of Bioregions. During the second scheduled session, some of the projects currently underway in the Basque Country will be introduced, in such areas as sustainable building, green chemicals or bioenergy, in order to obtain substitutive products for oil derivatives. The third session will focus on Challenges for the development of Bioeconomy, and it will bring forward such issues as current regulation, product quality certificates, ecodesign, environmental certificates or competitivity in different production processes.

Finally, the fourth session will count on the participation of representatives of the Life-Support EUTR II, a project included in the European Union Environment and Climate Action Programme with the goal of reducing illegal logging and improving the sustainable management of forests all over the World. Spain, Denmark, Germany, Italy, France and the Netherlands are the member states involved in the compliance and supervision of the European Union Timber Regulation (EUTR).

Egurtek is the only architecture and timber congress in Spain and an important focal point for the whole sector. On its eighth edition the programme will include the participation of top-level personalities, as well as an Exhibition Area with the latest developments in the field.

Egurtek 2020 is organized by Bilbao Exhibition Centre with the collaboration of Baskegur and the Official College of Architects of the Basque Country and Navarre; and the sponsorship of the Department for Economic Development and Infrastructures of the Basque Government.
