Initial confirmations from de prestigious architects in the Egurtek programme 2018

The Forum will hold its 7th edition on 18th and 19th October.

Renowned international architects have already confirmed their participation in the 7th edition of Egurtek, International Forum of Architecture and Construction in Wood, which will bring together experts and cutting edge companies from the sector on 18th and 19th October 2018 at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre.

The event’s organising team is working on an initial draft of the conference programme, in which the names of leading architects appear, such as Sara Klomps from Germany for Zaha Hadid Architects; Janne Kantee from Finland for Honkatalot Studio; Lidewij Lenders from The Netherlands for MAATworks Studio; Oscar and Iván Andrés from Bilbao for Arrokabe Arquitectos; Carmelo Fernández from Navarra for TYM Asociados, and Beatriz Bergasa from Logroño for Satie Arquitectos.

As well as the Conference, in which the most outstanding projects from these and other architects and engineers from different European countries will be on display, Egurtek will offer an extensive programme of Technical Workshops. Organised by Baskegur- the Basque Timber Association, the workshops will deal with issues such as materials, resistances, insulation, forests or biomass, enabling visitors to explore the many perspectives that the demands of the environmental, economic and social balance require of today’s construction.

In parallel, commercial exchange will be fostered in the “Expo Area”, in which around 50 firms specialising in architecture, timber houses, wood treatments, sustainable construction, journals and associations, engineering and decoration firms, timber for construction, framework software and timber, elements and materials importers will display their most advanced products and services.

The Egurtek Awards will also have their own space as an initiative to raise awareness of the use of timber. After incorporating the “Interior Design” category this year, the fourth edition of these awards will highlight the best architecture and design projects in wood in five categories: “Building”, “Design”, “Local Wood (Basque Quality)”, “Publications” and “Interior Design”. The official announcement of the winners will be at a press conference on 8th June 2018.

The dynamism of the timber sector, which has positioned itself very well in the field of sustainable construction and is gaining more and more specific weight in the economy of countries,  was already reflected in Egurtek 2016. The participation of 1,269 visitors- delegates confirmed the strength of this international event, which was presented with an extended exhibition area and a new initiative for commercial presentations, called “Market Point”.

Egurtek has the support of the Basque Government’s Department for Economic Development and Infrastructures.
